Exciting a desire to learn
We believe that the curriculum taught at Boscastle and Port Isaac Primary Schools inspires our children to learn.
Our children follow a mixed age curriculum where learning within each topic is differentiated to meet the needs of the different aged children in each class.
Early reading is taught using synthetic phonics as the main approach to reading. Pupils are systematically taught the phonemes (sounds), how to blend the sounds for reading, and how to segment the sounds in order to write and spell words. They are taught to use their phonic skills and knowledge as their first approach to reading, but are also taught high frequency/’tricky’ (Red) words which cannot be decoded.
The schools use the successful Jolly Phonics and Read Write Inc schemes to teach phonics. Children in Reception, year 1 and 2 are grouped according to ability and taught phonics in smaller groups.
If you require any further information regarding the curriculum your child will be following please contact Ms Duffy or your child’s class teacher.
